FYI:

  • An EPC gives a property an energy efficiency rating from A (best) to G (worst).
  • They are valid for 10 years.
  • You cannot let a property which has an EPC rating lower than a E and in the near future, it might even be less than a D…
  • They are looked at by mortgage companies to offer you a suitable mortgage for the property you are buying and especially for buy to let mortgages.

 

Tips to increase the rating:

  • Have low energy light bulbs in the whole house
  • Add loft insulation to a minimum of 250mm
  • Replace an old boiler
  • Install heating controls
  • Replace every single glazed window to a double glazing
  • Add wall insulation / filled cavities
  • Add floor insulation
  • Install solar panels
